The proposal comprises two lines of investigation that work in counterpoint and harmony, one in watercolor and the other in ink, in order to set up site-specific installations.
My watercolors come about in moments of leisure that I use for exercises and to evoke periods of study. I am interested in observing the environment—landscapes, architecture, interiors and converging forms—and converting it into planes of wash on the paper.
The ink pieces, on the other hand, are the result of a process of making space geometric and abstract. The strong lines that appear in the watercolors reach synthesis in lines of tension. Forms that propose relationships that would not otherwise be evident arise from intersections between lines. This brings about a play of tension and attraction between the series in color and the rigor of the ink series. My aim is to come closer to the inner play between these supposed complementary polarities.
Working in small format, with watercolor, ink, the pen, any elements at hand, the drawing table and the light that enters through the window all generate a closeness that becomes intimate, almost in the manner of a diary. This process allows me to advance toward more installation-like situations, in which viewers are submerged in an intervened space, moving from details to a larger scale. This is the means through which I propose the characteristic play of opposites and ambiguities in my work.
